Ron Emery, born and raised in Auburn Maine, learned to ski at the age of 5 at a very small ski area named Lost Valley. It is the same ski area that Karl Anderson, Julie Parisien, Rob Parisien and Anna Parisien, all former Olympic US Ski Team members, learned to ski at. Ron moved to Colorado in 1986 to attend Colorado Mountain College in Leadville, where he received his associates degree in Ski Area Management.

Ron started his coaching career in Leadville working with many programs. As an assistant coach at Colorado Mountain College he helped lead the women's Team to their only NCSA ski Championship. Ron also worked with both the Middle School and High School programs. The women's middle school team won three consecutive middle school championships under Ron. He also worked with the Cloud City Club Team where he helped the program thrive. The CCSC won the Youth Ski League championship in 1992. Ron helped start the Age class program at CCSC that became very successful under his guidance, sending many athletes to the Junior Olympics.

Ron helped start the race series named the Council Cup. This race started out as the last chance qualifier for J3 athletes for Junior Olympics. Later on it came to include both J3 and J4. Ron retired from this race series in 2008 after 15 great years.

Hello Racers,

I hope everyone's summer has gone well, and everyone is healthy and recovered from their injuries. I know I'm looking forward to the up coming season with Swiss-am. As you have seen in the recent e-mails, Lori and I have been working with the Loveland head coach and the new LRC director to insure our great training for the upcoming season. Most everything will stay the same. The season will officially start October 15, 2011, if weather and mother nature cooperate. Remember that November is the tough month with all the teams that come to train. We will have some space available in November, it will be posted on the training calendar soon.

It's important so setup your schedule to get as much free skiing in before we get into our gate training mode. Free skiing drills and basic fundamentals are so important to lay down the foundation to a successful season. I will try to have the calendar filled in at least two months into the season so you can set up your work schedules.

Friendly reminder that your success will depend on what you have done in the off season conditioning. Don't fool yourself thinking you can ski yourself into top notch form by just showing up to ski. You hold the keys to your success this season if you put the time in the weight room, track, in front of the mirrors.

Your key points should be strength, power, endurance/balance/flexibility. It should include aerobic and anaerobic plyometrics.   If you need a jump start, I  will be available after September 22, if you need a workout plan.

Swiss-am will still use the Tag Hauer Chrono timing system this season again. I will still have some watches to sell if you might have any interest in a watch.

Again this summer I attended an on line auction for a shop going out of business. Everything you see in RED is new to the list. As you will see for some of you motorcycle enthusiast there are some dirt bike items on the list this season.

I have purchased a  disc side grinder for skis. I had the opportunity to play around with it last spring. This tool leaves such a great precise edge that it is unbelievable how well your skis will engage. I've tuned skis a long time using files and diamond stones and polishing stones. I have never seen edges do perfect.

Enjoy the last month of summer and if you have any  questions email me or call me if would to discuss anything. Thanks everyone see you soon, Boot day will be September 10 at the Loveland Basin.

Thanks

Coach Ron
